A Day In The Life of Namjai Village

Living with Purpose: The Vision of Namjai Village in Chiang Mai

A Embracing Nature for a Healthier Lifestyle

Imagine waking up to the sound of birds, the sight of green leaves, and the scent of tropical flowers. This is the vision for Namjai Village, an intentional co-housing community in the planning stages near Chiang Mai, Thailand. As Eleonore shares in the Namjai Village Podcast, “The first impression we want to have when we wake up in the morning is that we see green leaves around us and flowers and we hear the birds.”

Living close to nature isn’t just about aesthetics—it has tangible benefits. Stefan highlights a fundamental human connection to the environment: “If you have green around you, that means that there's water. And if there's water, that means that you can drink.” The design of Namjai Village aims to create a setting where daily life is grounded in nature, from fresh fruit at breakfast to the calming presence of water features and gardens.

Building Community Through Shared Spaces

Namjai Village isn’t just a housing development—it’s a vision for a connected way of living. The village will be built around communal areas designed for both work and social interaction. The Namjai Sala, the planned common house, will serve as a central hub for dining, coworking, and gatherings. Stefan describes his ideal morning: “I would go to the common house for my work in the morning, be close to other people while they are also working by themselves.”

The balance of private and shared spaces is key. Residents will have their own homes while also enjoying access to a coworking space, a communal kitchen, and outdoor gathering areas. Eleonore envisions shared meals and activities: “If there are kids around, we can play with the kids, we can read them stories, you know, we can engage in more activities that are not work.”

Weekly communal lunches, where some residents cook together, could be an opportunity to strengthen social bonds while maintaining personal choice in daily routines.

Creating Meaning Through Cultural and Social Experiences

Namjai Village aims to be a place where diverse traditions are celebrated. From Thai festivals to Western holidays, the community will embrace cultural exchange. “It’s going to be so much fun to have a huge Christmas and to have an actual Santa and also to celebrate the Thai holidays,” Eleonore shares.

These shared experiences, whether movie nights in the amphitheater or storytelling gatherings, foster deeper connections. Stefan looks forward to revisiting childhood classics with a new generation: “I can imagine going to re-watch a bunch of Disney movies from my childhood and then having the kids there also enjoy them.”

These activities highlight the kind of communal engagement that Namjai Village hopes to cultivate.

Bringing Namjai Village to Life

Namjai Village is still in its early stages and needs people who share its vision to make it a reality. Whether as a future resident or an investor, those who believe in intentional community living, sustainability, and a balance between privacy and connection have the chance to help shape something meaningful.
